DuoDec.net is a blog about programming, hardware, games, and other areas of technology.

I am a Canadian 4th year Computer Engineering student who enjoys hobby game programming, robotics, video games and reading books.

I have been programming since age 9 or so, starting with Chipmunk BASIC, moving to MetaL BASIC soon after then quickly picking up PHP, C, C++, ObjC, Lua, JavaScript, Java, and dabbling in shell scripting, perl, a few ASMs, and the odd random scripting language just for fun.

My current favourites are Processing for quick and easy graphical stuff, C++ coded like C with pass by reference and the STL for system level stuff through GCC, C on the Arduino for hardware dabbling, and PHP/MySQL/HTML/JQuery for almost all things web.

I am functionally platform agnostic. I enjoy my photo and video editing on mac, games on windows, and programming on and for Ubuntu linux until I need a device driver that doesn’t exist and have to write the bloody thing.

You will note that every piece of software that I mentioned is free or open source. I am a big fan of open source, and release most of my hobby code under very permissive licenses (MIT, BSD, or LGPL generally). I generally am not a fan of viral strong copy-left licenses, although I understand why one might want to turn to it, and fully respect the author’s right to do so.
